Abstract
1417811 Synthetic granules mineral material SOC DES VERRERIES INDUSTRIELLES REUNIES DU LOING 26 July 1973 [27 July 1972] 35584/73 Heading C1A A granulate comprising polyhedric granules of a synthetic ceramic material having a molecular formula equal or close to NuFeSi 2 O 6 and having a Los Angeles coefficient not exceeding 15, is prepared by melting a mixture of oxides corresponding approximately to the above formula, forming the resulting nitrous composition when plastic into granules of the desired shape and subjecting the granules to heat treatment to effect nucleation and crystal growth. It is preferred to synthesise the granu-. late material from iron ore, silica sand and NaCl by melting these materials at 1300‹ C. in stoichiometric proportions and having the glass like material between two metallic rollers, into one of which titrahedra are engraved as hollows. In this way titrahedra are produced by rolling which are connected together by a thin sheet of glass which it is only necessary to break in order to obtain the granulates, which are then heated to 575-900‹ C. to produce nucleation and crystal growth. The material produced is suitable for use in shot blasting, for making grinding wheels, paving stones and wall facings.
