Abstract
1428032 Generating superheated steam R SHUFFMAN 16 April 1973 18313/73 Heading F4A Apparatus for producing superheated steam comprises means for supplying water under pressure to jet spray means 57 for injection into a linear portion 56A of an elongated conduit in a direction substantially in alignment therewith, and means, such as a burner 44, for maintaining the conduit at a temperature at which the sprayed water is flashed into steam and is superheated while travelling along the conduit. The pressure and direction of spray are such that the steam moves through the conduit at a velocity at which the inner surface of the conduit is self-scavenging, so that impure water may be used, salts and other impurities being entrained by the steam. Water is preheated in jacket 38 surrounding combustion chamber 42 before being fed through common header 58 to spray nozzles 57. Linear conduit portions 56A are succeeded by helical portions 56 connected to common header 64 from which the superheated steam is passed to a further conduit 69, surrounded by a conduit 73 supplied with the hot gases from the combustion chamber, and thence to outlet line 70. The rate of supply of water may be controlled automatically in response to steam temperature.
