Abstract

1427474 Mechanical switches SWFSPEZIALFABRIK FUER AUTOZUBEHOER GUSTAV RAU GmbH 21 May 1974 [17 July 1973] 22554/74 Heading H1N A make-before-break switch adapted to be mounted on the steering column of a motor vehicle for maintaining a circuit for a beam of light while the switch is moved between mainbeam and dipped-beam positions, comprises a contact arm 21 held in mechanical engagement with a switch lever 23 by means of a compression spring 19 and having a contact (16, 17) adjacent each end of the arm 21 but on opposed sides thereof, the ends of the arm being displaceable in response to movement of the switch lever 23, a first fixed contact 24 co-operating with the contact 16 on the side of arm 21 facing the switch lever 23, and a second fixed contact 15 co-operating with contact 17 on the side of arm 21 remote from lever 23, the compression spring 19 engaging the arm 21 between the first fixed contact 24 and the lever 23 and on the side of the arm 21 remote from the lever 23. As shown, the end of arm 21 carrying contact 16 is guided between two cross-pieces 26 of the switch housing 20, while the end adjacent contact 17 is formed into a sleeve-like eyelet 12 guided on three sides by cross-pieces 18 of housing 20. A flexible lead 14 connects arm 21 to a terminal strip. The switch lever 23 is located by a spring detent (not shown) and may be movable laterally for independent control of direction indicators, for example.
