Abstract

1426575 Laminated tapes GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 12 June 1973 [12 June 1972] 27978/73 Heading B5N [Also in Division H1] An electrical insulating tape comprises a layer 2 of resin-inpregnated micaceous paper, superimposed thereon a plurality of flattened glass yarns 3 disposed in spaced, generally lengthwise parallel fashion, and superimposed thereon a layer 4 of polymer film. The polymer film may be a polyester, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, polysulphone, polyethylene, polypropylene, polybutylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl acetal, polyacrylate, cellulose acetate, cellulose acetobutyrate or polycarbonate. The impregnating resin, which may also be used for bonding the yarns to the impregnated paper and for bonding the polymer film to the yarns may comprise a catalysed solution in xylene of a silanol stopped dimethyl polysiloxane. The glass yarns may be flattened by passing an assembly of the yarns adhesively bonded to the paper and after curing of the impregnant, through a pair of nip rollers prior to the application of the adhesive coated polymer film.
