Abstract

1315666 Electric cable BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd 22 Oot 1970 [22 Oct 1969] 51781/69 Heading H1A [Also in Division H2] A cable has a laminated insulation 3 impregnated with non-draining insulating compound and built up at least in part from a composite tape or tapes comprising a plastics film bonded to a sheet or sheets of fibrous insulating material pre-impregnated with a "non-draining" compound. The plastics film may be extruded between sheets of fibrous insulating material, which may be paper to form a pre-stressed laminate. The plastics film may be of polyethylene, polypropylene, a polycarbonate, a polysulphone, a saturated linear polyester, a polyphenylene oxide, poly-4-methylpentene-1, polytetrafluoroethylene, an ethylene-propylene copolymer, fluorinated ethylene-propylene copolymer, polyfluorostyrene or polyvinyl oarbazole. One or more of the paper layers may be loaded with active aluminium oxide, or with another active metal oxide, hydrated metal oxide, hydroxide, carbonate or basic carbonate that has sorptive powers. The cable includes semi-conductive screens 2, 4 which consist of at least one layer of the laminate tape as described above, suitably metallized or loaded with conductive material. Three cables are bound together by binder 5 within a metallic sheath 6 which may be corrugated and a plastics over sheath 7.
