Abstract
1426461 Diolefins COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE DE RAFFINAGE 17 July 1973 [17 July 1972 5 Jan 1973] 34033/73 Addition to 1355704 Heading C5E [Also in Divisions B1 and C2] Diolefins and/or olefinically unsaturated alcohols are produced by dehydrating a diol in the presence of a catalyst comprising (a) at least one neutral pyrophosphate of Li, Na, Sr and Ba, and (b) chromium in combined form in an amount of up to 2% wt. (calculated as metal) and/or at least one oxide, hydroxide or basic salt of an alkali or alkaline earth metal. The composition may also contain at least one neutral ortho phosphate of Li, Na, Sr or Ba. The examples describe the dehydration of 2- methyl butane 2, 3 diol at 350-400‹ C. to give a product containing predominantly isoprene. The dehydration of 2,3-butandiol to butadiene is also mentioned.
