Abstract

The parent specification describes dehydration catalysts consisting of at least one (mixed) pyrophosphate of >=1 of the metals Li, Na, Sr and Ba and optionally at least one orthophosphate of >=1 of the metals Li, Na, Sr or Ba. The activity, stability and selectivity of the catalysts are now improved by the incorporation of =2 wt.% (as Cr) of a chromium compound, on total weight of the catalyst. The catalysts are especially useful for dehydrating organic diols to alkadienes.
