Abstract

1425717 Refrigerators BURGER EISENWERKE AG 30 May 1973 [5 June 1972 7 Aug 1972] 25874/73 Heading F4H A refrigerated container for storing foodstuffs or pharmaceuticals which is portable or in trolley form, comprises a storage space subdivided by partitions 11 into compartments for receiving the goods 12 and an upper compartment 13 receiving a vaporizing coolant, e.g. solid CO 2 , and having at least one substantially vertical duct 21 for the passage of a stream of evolved gas which is divided into predetermined quantities by apertures 22 in the duct wall communicating with the individual compartments. The container is subdivided by inserts arranged in tiers and the duct is formed by a partition spaced from an end wall of the container, which partition has guide tongues or flaps 23 projecting into the duct to guide the gas through the flow control apertures. One or more non-sealant doors are provided to allow excess air and/or gas to escape and the container or upper compartment is inclined to the horizontal. The uppermost storage compartment is separated from the compartment 13 by an insulated plate 16. The tongues may be connected together in louvre-fashion and pivoted by a common temperature-sensitive expansion member. In a modification a plurality of ducts of narrow rectangular cross-section are provided, each connected with one of the compartments located in the various horizontal planes, and their flow cross-sections are proportional to their length. An additional thermal insulating plate, which is permeable to water vapour but adsorbs water droplets separates the coolant containing compartment from the uppermost storage compartment. This plate may be formed of a disposable cellulose material. The dry ice may be housed within a slidable drawer.
