Abstract

1425297 Hydraulic gear-pumps and motors RELIANCE ELECTRIC CO 5 Feb 1974 [20 April 1973] 05198/74 Heading F1F To relieve the pressure of fluid trapped in the zone between the meshing teeth of an hydraulic gear-pump or motor, a port 100 in one or both of a pair of pressure-loaded cheek-plates connects the zone 92, 92a via passageway 102 or 103 with whichever of the ports 80, 82 is at the higher pressure via recess 86 or 90 in the pressure plates. As shown, a ball 104 located in a chamber 106 connecting passageways 102, 103 acts as a valve to ensure that the trapped fluid is always directed to the high-pressure port irrespective of the direction of rotation of the gears. The effect is to reduce wear and noise.
