Abstract
1292825 Hydraulic gear pump or motor FRIEDRICH WILHELM FRST VON HOHENZOLLERN [trading as FURSTLICH HOHENZOLLERNSCHE HTTENVERWALTUNG LAUCHERTHAL] 31 Oct 1969 [18 Nov 1968] 53540/69 Heading F1F A hydraulic gear pump or motor comprises internally meshing gears 2,3, the numbers of teeth of the two gears differing sufficiently for a crescent-shaped chamber 44 to be formed between the non-engaging teeth, this chamber communicating with the inlet and outlet ports 5,5' through suitably dimensioned leakage gaps so that an intermediate pressure is built up in this chamber to partly counter-balance the thrust due to the pressure on the pressure side. The leakage gaps are produced by extending the ports 5,5' angularly to points slightly less than one tooth division from the point where the teeth of the two gear wheels run out of mesh. Adjustment of the leakage gaps may be achieved by locating the ports 5, 5' in an angularly adjustable end plate. The tooth flanks of the internally toothed gear 2 are preferably arcuate, the remote flanks of adjacent teeth lying on the same cylindrical surface. Axial sealing is effected by a thrust plate 12 biased against the gears by working fluid supplied to areas 22 via passage 49. Fluid leaking across the side faces of the gears is collected in grooves in the casing 1 and plate 12 and is fed therefrom via passages 21,32,33,35,27 and 28 to hydrodynamic bearings 36,36' and 29, the fluid leaking from the bearings being bled off via passages 20 and 11. Pressure fluctuations in chamber 44 are damped by connecting the chamber by a passage 23, Fig.1, to a bore containing a spring loaded plunger Fig.4 (not shown). A regulating and relief valve communicates with passage 33.
