Abstract

1424909 Rotary engines NIPPON PISTON RING CO Ltd 11 Sept 1973 [12 Sept 1972] 42756/73 Heading F1F A rotary piston internal combustion engine includes an apex seal and a rotor housing, the apex seal being of ferrous or non-ferrous metal provided with a sprayed-on layer of an oxide of iron containing oxygen in the range from 15À0 to 30À05 weight per cent, the layer being at least 0À1 mm thick and preferably not more than 5À0mm, and the rotor housing being provided at least where it contacts the apex seal with a cast iron member with graphite precipitated on the surface thereof in the range of from 1 to 15 per cent of the surface area which contacts the apex seal. Thus the rotor housing may be wholly of cast iron of in the form of an aluminium alloy casting with a cast iron insert.
