Abstract

1424005 Twisting apparatus COMMONWEALTH SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH ORGANIZATION 19 Dec 1972 [30 Dec 1971] 58558/72 Heading DID [Also in Division F2] Travelling strand is twisted in an assembly comprising at least one rotating, axially reciprocating, hollow roller which is supported by two bearings on a mandrel connected at one end only to the assembly. Rollers 2, 4, Fig. 2, are supported by gas bearings 13, 14 and 16, 17 on mandrels 11, 12 secured by studs 10 in frames 1, 3. The rollers are rotated and reciprocated by rods 18, 19. Gas, preferably air, is fed via inlets 26, 27, passages 20, 30 and holes 28 to the bearings, and is discharged through mandrel slot 29 and holes 31. Frame 3 pivots about pivots 6 so that roller 4 is urged by moveable weights against roller 2. Alternatively, Fig. 4, the mandrels and rods extend from opposite roller ends.
