Abstract

1341292 Roller twisting apparatus; yarns COMMONWEALTH SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH ORGANIZATION 19 April 1971 [9 Feb 1970] 21443/71 Headings DID D1F and D1N [Also in Division F2] In a reciprocating roller textile strand twisting apparatus, each roller is supported on gas bearings comprising a hollow mandrel 3 mounted on a frame 4 and arranged to project into the hollow interior of the roller 1, a plurality of orifices 9 in the mandrel and arranged about the periphery of the mandrel, and means to direct gas under pressure through the mandrel to the orifices for discharge against a bearing surface of the roller to support the roller on the mandrel. Two such bearings are provided spaced longitudinally within the roller, and a rod 12 extends from outside the roller through one of the bearings into the interior of the roller between the bearings where it is fastened at 13 to the roller. The rod 12 is reciprocated longitudinally and simultaneously rotated whereby a textile strand passing through the nip of rollers 15 and 1 is false twisted. The mandrel 3 comprises an inner tube 5 spaced from the mandrel interior surface to provide a manifold 7 via which pressurised gas is fed to the orifices 9. The gas is exhausted at the, ends of the bearing, some of which exhaust gas leaves the roller via passage 11. The rod fastening means 13 is provided with axial holes 16 to prevent a pumping action during reciprocation of the rod 12. A rubber bearing 14 is provided between the rod 12 and the fastening means 13.
