Abstract
1423407 Vacuum switches WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 16 April 1973 [28 April 1972] 18235/73 Heading H1N A vacuum switch having a tubular insulating envelope 12 between two end caps 14, 16 has a solid insulating layer 44 filled with an X-ray absorbing material surrounding the outer surface of the envelope 12 to form an X-ray absorbing shield 12. The layer 44 may have a corrugated surface 46 to increase the oversurface clearance between conductors 27, 28. The X-ray absorbing material may be lead oxide in epoxy resin and the layer may be moulded on to the insulator to extend over the end caps (Fig. 2, not shown). In Fig. 3 the layer is a separate tube 54 between end plates 52, 56 of the same material.
