Abstract
1451346 Circuit breaker assembly; vacuum switches MEIDENSHA KK 26 Oct 1973 [1 Nov 1972] 49945/73 Heading H1N A circuit breaker assembly. Fig. 1, has the circuit breaker unit such as a vacuum switch 64, 68 with its associated terminal connectors 74, 90 located between a lower cylindrical insulating support 92 and an upper V-clamp 80, the whole being enclosed within a sealed envelope 36 of insulating material and the space between being filled with a fluid insularit such as SF6. The envelope 36 is generally cylindrical, has a conductive earthing screen 38 incorporated near its circumference along its full length, has two openings spaced longitudinally in its cylindrical wall, and is screw-threaded at each end to receive metal mounting members 44, 46 each of which has openings 48, 50 for alignment with those of the envelope to enable the screwed ends of insulated lead members 12, 14 to be inserted and coupled into position by means of metal flanged fixings 52, 54 so that conductors 18 of the lead members 12, 14 electrically engage respective terminal connectors 74, 90. The lead members 12, 14, shown as 20 in Fig. 2, may be moulded or be constructed by winding layers of paper on the elongated conductor 18 and introducing conductive foils 24, 26a, 26b, 26c, 26d at the ends to form capacitor cones 28, 30 for electric field stress relieving means in the dielectric together with a conductive earthing screen 32 in an outer circumferential layer which is impregnated with epoxy resin. Stress rings (35), (36) may be incorporated instead of capacitor cones (Fig. 3, not shown) and alternative methods of coupling the lead members to the envelope are described (Figs. 5, 6, not shown). All flanged and screwed joints are rendered fluid-tight by means of 0-rings or by epoxy resin adhesive.
