Abstract

Reinforced-concrete floors and roofs; arches; girder floors; staircases; reinforced blockwork beams.-Concrete floors, roofs, and landings are formed without centering bv laying blocks A, Figs. 8 and 16, on temporary boards R which extend from wall to wall, then tying the blocks together by rods C and nuts D to form beams side by side on which the concrete is cast. The rods C lie in grooves B or between rabbets on the edges of the blocks and become the reinforcements for the ribs of the cast concrete. Other reinforcements K may be added in the upper parts of the blocks where the beams extend over supports. An arched construction, Fig. 10, may be similarly formed, the upper surface of the concrete being flat or curved. Before casting the concrete over the beams, wedges are inserted under their ends, the boards R are removed, and the beams then lowered on to mortar beds.
