Abstract

1423211 Cartons EPEX 4 April 1973 [6 April 1972] 16082/73 Heading B8P [Also in Division B5] A ventilated carton has holes 35 at the junction of base 31 and sides 32, 33 and cut-outs 10, 11, which assist in the ventilation retain an elastic band or net thereby maintaining the carton in its erect condition. In some forms one pair of sides has flaps permanently secured to the other pair of sides. The carton may be of micro-corrugated cardboard coated on one face with a paper of calendered or glassine type treated with an amine resin to increase its wet strength. Needlehole perforations may be provided in the base and sides. A film of transparent plastic 12, Fig. 3, may be wrapped round the carton, two opposite sides 3 being higher than sides 2 to locate the film 12. The higher sides can have handholes cut therein. In one form the carton may be trapezoidal. Fold line (18, 19, Fig. 4) between the flaps and sides may comprise two closely spaced folds to avoid a sharp edge. In the form shown in Fig. 6, stacking is effected by cut-outs 39 in the base engaging edges 36a on inturned flanges 36, Fig. 7c, the flanges 36 carrying tongues 37 engaging slots in flaps 38. In another form tongues projecting downwardly engage slits in inturned flanges on two sides (52, 55, Fig. 8).
