Abstract

1423145 Toothed gearing ROLLS-ROYCE (1971) Ltd 17 Aug 1973 [8 Sept 1972] 41689/72 Heading F2Q In a planetary gear mechanism comprising a planet pinion 11 meshing a sun gear 13 and an annulus gear 12, the pinion 11 is rotatably mounted on a shaft 19 which is attached at one end 20 to a planet carrier 21 by two spring steel beams 22, 23, which diverge axially away from the pinion 11. The width of each beam is greater than its thickness. At its other end the shaft 19 passes through a part 25 which extends radially from a ring 26 concentric with the axis of the planetary gear. On the application of a load in the direction 48, the shaft 19 and beams 22, 23 deflect in the manner shown in Fig. 5 maintaining the axis of the pinion parallel with the axis 17 of the planet gear. Lubricant is fed to planet pinion 19 through a drilling 31 in part 25. Alternate parts 25 carry spray bars 35 which direct oil on to the teeth of various gears. In planetary star gearing, the planet carrier is stationary and the part 25 is unnecessary. Lubricant may be supplied by a flexible hose.
