Abstract

1,202,908. Toothed gearing. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. 4 Sept., 1967 [6 Sept., 1966], No. 40313/67. Heading F2Q. In epicyclic gearing comprising a sun gear 1, annulus gear 2 and at least one planet gear 3 on a planet carrier 5, all the gears are helical involute gears and two of them form a gear pair the the pinion of which meets the following conditions (a) the equivalent number of teeth is Nn #5 where Nn = N/cos<SP>2</SP># b .cos# p N being the number of teeth in the transverse plane, # b being the helix angle on the base cylinder, # p being the helix angle on the pitch cylinder, (b) the helix angle # p is calculated by the formula sin # p = #/2F P D where P D = diametral pitch in transverse plane F = face width, (c) the profiles of the flanks that participate in any load bearing act complementary to the profiles of the flanks of the second gear in that pair, and (d) it is a long-addendum type gear. Preferably, the sun gear 1 forms the pinion and the planet gear 3 forms the second gear, the sun gear being secured to a driving shaft 11 and the planet carrier 5 being secured to a driven shaft 6 which supports a V-belt pulley 8. In a modification, a compound epicyclic gear comprises a compound planet wheel 19, 13, the gear portion 13 forming with an annulus 18 a gear pair having the above specified conditions. Sun gear 1 and planet gear portion 19 may also form a similar gear pair, gear portion 19 being made of plastics material. Cover check rings 17 are provided on the ends of the planet carrier.
