Abstract
1418448 Fluid pulsating devices COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 11 April 1974 [12 April 1973] 16322/74 Heading F1P A fluid pulsating device for transmitting the reciprocating motion of a piston 7 to a body of fluid V 3 , e.g. for agitating liquid columns for speeding up physical or chemical reactions, comprises an incompressible deformable chamber 1 which is separated from said fluid body V 3 by a circular diaphragm 4 and is subjected to the pressure in a hydraulic accumulator 5, a liquid filled piston chamber 6 divided by the piston 7 into a first compartment V 1 separated from chamber 1 by a circular diaphragm 3, and a second compartment connected to a reservoir 8 of compressed gas, the pressure of this gas being adjusted to balance out the static pressure exerted by said fluid body V 3 on the piston via chamber 1 and compartment V 1 , and a motor 9 which, via crank plate 25 and arm 26 attached to piston-rod 24, drives the piston 7 to perform the reciprocating motion. The lower compartment of chamber 6 communicates with an annular chamber 16 surrounding it via ports 19, 19', which chamber 16 in turn communicates with reservoir 8 via pipe 20. The piston 7 has oppositely acting check valves 22, 23 therein for permitting flow thereacross if the pressure difference between the piston chamber compartments exceeds an unacceptable value. Grids 12, 13, 15 prevent excessive flexing of the diaphragms 3, 4. and accumulator 5 takes up any slight variation in pressure in chamber 1 due to uncoordinated movements of the diaphragms 3, 4.
