Abstract

1496546 Combined elastomeric springs and fluid dampers LORD CORP 20 May 1975 [11 June 1974] 21373/75 Heading F2S A combined elastomeric spring and fluid damper comprises a piston 14, a cylinder 11, an annular elastomeric member 17 secured between them to define a cavity in the cylinder, a rigid partition 20, with a fluid restriction 21, dividing the cavity into two chambers 22, 24, and a flexible diaphragm 26 dividing the chamber 24 into two compartments 24a, 24b. The compartment 24b is filled with gas, the compartment 24a and the chamber 22 with liquid. The elastomeric member 17 deforms in shear. Bump stops 30 limit the axial movement of the piston 14. A baffle 27 prevents flow through the restriction 21 impinging on the diaphragm 26.
