Abstract

1418329 Laminated tissue MONSANTO CO 28 Aug 1973 [29 Aug 1972] 40401/73 Heading B5N A laminate comprises at least two tissue laminae and at least one non-woven fabric lamina sandwiched therebetween, the non- woven fabric comprising continuous organic synthetic filaments (particularly of nylon) bonded together at a plurality of cross-over points, weighing no more than 0À4 oz./yd.<SP>2</SP> and having a voids area of more than 50% of its surface, and the tissue laminae comprising short cellulosic fibres with the fibres of the laminae on either side of the fabric being intertwined through the fabric voids so as mechanically to lock the laminae together. The laminate is produced by feeding tissue papers and spunbonded fabric from respective rolls to a nip, immersing the superposed laminae in a water bath, passing them through a further nip to wring out excess water and then between heated pressure rollers to remove the water and cause the cellulosic fibres of each tissue lamina to become entwined through the fabric voids. An embossing roller may be incorporated before the bonding rollers to provide the laminate with depressions over 20-50% of its surface area.
