Abstract

1416356 Inductors HELVAR OY 15 June 1973 [15 June 1972] 28593/73 Heading HIT [Also in Division B3] A choke comprises at least two plate stacks 1À1, 1À2, surrounded by a sheet metal case comprising at least two component parts 2, 3. A first component part, 2 has upstanding sides with turned-in lips 2À2 which are folded over bent-up lips 3À1 of the second component part 3, so as to press together the plate stacks 1À1, 1À2 with a predetermined force for the prevention of mains hum in the plate stacks. The case component 2 further has punchedout tongues 2À1 for bending towards the plate stacks 1À1, 1À2 so as to press together the plates of each stack with a predetermined force. Preferably the plate stacks 1À1, 1À2, comprise E-plates and I-plates; and an air gap, with or without a filling of hard insulating compound may be provided in the middle leg. Cores made from two E-shaped stacks are also envisaged. A method of making a choke comprises placing the loosely-assembled plate stacks and case components in a recess 4À1 of a base 4, and bringing down a plunger tool 5 shaped at 5À1 for folding the lips 2À2 over the lips 3À1. The channel defined in the case 3 by the lips 3À1 may be used as a wiring conduit. Alternatively the edges of one of the stacks may be bevelled (Fig. 3, not shown) and the case component (3a) correspondingly shaped so that the lips (2À1, 3À1) lie within the rectangular outline of the choke.
