Abstract

1415538 Coated sheet materials CARL FREUDENBERG 15 Dec 1972 [18 Dec 1971 4 Feb 1972] 57991/72 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions Dl and D2] An interlining material in the form of a continuous length of a bonded non-woven fabric optionally carrying a coating of heat-activatable adhesive, has areas having a minimum dimension in the area of the fabric of 1 cm. preferably 5 cm which comprise differing concentrations. of binder and/or adhesive. As shown area 3 contains more binder than area 2. Interlinings are cut from the fabric having one area comprising more binder and hence stiffer than the other area. In other embodiments three zones of differing concentration of adhesive coating run the length of the continuous fabric. Preferably the interlining is hot pressed onto the outer fabric e.g. a man's jacket. Alternatively it is sewn, prepared from a 55 g/m<SP>2</SP> carded, orientated fleece of crimped polyamide fibres of thickness 3 denier, length 5 cm and 22 crimps/cm. A foamed nitrile rubber latex is uniformly applied to the fleece, forced in by pressure rolls and the rubber partially cured at 120-140‹C to give an 80 g/m<SP>2</SP> bonded fabric. Additional nitrile rubber latex, thickened with methyl cellulose is then applied as a paste to a stencil having longitudinal slots as the stencil masks the fabric to form longitudinal ridges that are calendered into the fabric. Alternatively the binder may be applied by a grooved roll. In the embodiment of Fig. 2, not shown, this additional binder covers half the fabric as longitudinal rows. The first and second binders are cured at 140-160‹C. A heat activatable adhesive is then applied to the opposite surface to that at which the binder is applied particles of polyolefine may scattered onto the surface or an aqueous polyamide dispersion may be printed as discontinuous rows, the rows being closer together in some areas than in others. Alternatively the printing roll may have grooves which decrease steadily in depth so that the concentration of adhesive varies along the rows.
