Abstract

1490516 Heat bonded laminated fabric R N C GRYLLS 8 Oct 1974 [17 Oct 1973] 48311/73 Heading B5N A method of producing a bonded fabric comprises needling a first layer comprising a non- woven fabric through an open sheet which is of or includes heat softenable bonding material into a second and base layer so that the fibres of the non-woven fabric penetrate into the base layer and bonding the base layer to the non- woven fabric by heating the assembly of non- woven fabric, open network sheet and base layer so as to soften the bonding material but not the non-woven fabric where this is of or includes a heat-softenable material. In a preferred embodiment, the base layer is also a non-woven fabric, the exemplified fabrics being formed from acrylic or acrylic/wool fibres. The open network sheet may be a mesh fabric of a polyolefine, e.g. polyethylene or polypropylene or of nylon. Bonding may be effected in a heated platen press or a calender, the means used having means for varying the temperature and pressure applied. The products may be used as clothing or furnishing fabrics or in footwear.
