Abstract

1,249,691. Laminates. COMPAGNIE DE SAINT-GOBAIN. 28 April, 1969 [2 May, 1968], No. 21553/69. Heading B5N. [Also in Division D1] A mat is formed by disposing a layer of longer more supple connecting fibres between layers of mineral fibres and using barbed needles to carry the connecting fibres into the layers of mineral fibres. The connecting fibres may comprise organic material, e.g. polyamide, polyester, vinyl chloride or natural or regenerated cellulose, or metal fibres, e.g. copper or aluminium. They may be connected together by needling or by a binder to form a coherent mat. They may be thermoplastic and may be heated, e.g. by infra-red radiation, before needling to the mineral fibres. The mineral fibres may be of glass and may be slightly oiled or sized. The mat may be reinforced, e.g. a cloth of polyamide or jute, a non-woven fabric, a metal fibre, a plastics material, latex, or polyvinyl chloride may be arranged on the surface or internally. Underlays, e.g. glass fibres or latex may be used.
