Abstract

1414379 Coating apparatus E KUSTERS 25 Jan 1973 [27 Jan 1972 16 Nov 1972] 3741/73 Heading B2L [Also in Division D1] Apparatus for applying coating liquid to a surface comprises a rotatable roller 13 mounted in a trough 19 and rotating in the direction of arrow 4 to carry coating material from the trough, which material is then removed from the roller by a blade 8 down which it flows on to the article to be coated. The amount of material carried by the roller to the blade 8 is determined by the depth of immersion of the roller in the coating material and this can be controlled by an adjustable overflow pipe 43. In other embodiments the height of the trough relative to the roller can be adjusted or the height controlled by filling the trough from a variable output pump. A forward compartment 18 is provided which collects any excess material which passes under the blade 8 and is removed by a further sealing blade 38. A barrier 47 is provided to prevent eddies in the trough.
