Abstract
1413808 Plastics bags DOWNS SURGICAL Ltd 9 Nov 1973 [14 Nov 1972] 52558/72 Heading B8P [Also in Division A4] A valve 2 of a plastics bag has a longitudinal seal 3 joining together the two opposite faces of the valve to prevent the valve from being turned inside out and so spilling the contents. The bag is formed by making welds 2 on two superposed plastics sheets 1 to define the valve, removing waste portions 6, folding the sheets 1 about lines 5 to enclose the valve and sealing the end and sides. Wires enclosed in paper may be positioned at the wider end of the valve to enable a filled bag to be closed by folding over the bag top and turning inwards the ends of the wires. The seals may be effected by heat or ultrasonic welding. A paper/plastics sheet may alternatively be used. The bag may be marked with graduations.
