Abstract
1413099 Automatic electric control of fuel injection FIAT SpA 5 March 1974 9848/74 Heading G3N [Also in Division F1] The injection time of a fuel injection pump is altered by physically changing its angular relationship with its drive-shaft in response to a sensed engine parameter by means of an hydraulically actuated helical sleeve coupling. In the arrangement shown the sensed engine parameter which may be engine speed, manifold pressure or temperature or composition of the exhaust gas produces an input signal to processor 24 whose output signal on line 32 represents the required angular displacement of pump drive-shaft 12 with respect to the driving-shaft 14. The actual angular displacement of shafts 12 and 14 is derived from the signals generated in pick-ups 38, 40 by ferromagnetic wheels 34, 36 which are used, after signal shaping in monostables 46, 48, to operate bi-stable flip-flop 54 and produce a signal on line 58. The error between the actual displacement and the required displacement appears as a signal on line 62 and is used in electromagnet 21 to operate valve 20 which alters the supply of hydraulic fluid to coupling 10 and thus the angular displacement of shafts 12, 14.
