Abstract

1412839 Colour cathode-ray tubes PHILIPS ELECTRIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 13 Dec 1973 [16 Dec 1972] 57779/73 Heading H1D In a colour display cathode-ray tube, each gun 10, 20, 30, has a cathode 12, 22, 32, a control grid 13, 23, 33, an anode 14, 24, 34, a focusing electrode 15, 25, 35 and an accelerating electrode 16, 26, 36. The gun axes 17, 27, 37 may be coplanar with axis 28 coinciding with the main axis of the tube, and the axis 17, 37 displaced and parallel on either side. The axes 18, 38 of electrodes 16, 36 are displaced outwardly from the axes 18, 38 of the guns 10, 30, while remaining parallel to and in the same plane as the axes of the guns. The diameter of electrodes 16, 36 is greater than the diameter of the electrodes 15, 25, 35 by at least twice the displacement. In another arrangement, the guns are arranged with their axes parallel to the tube axis and displaced therefrom in triangular fashion, the electrodes 16, 26, 36 being further displaced from the axis. The effect of the displacement of electrodes 16, 26, 36 is to deflect the electron beams from the guns so that the beams converge on a single point, even though the gun axes are parallel. The parallel arrangement of the guns enables these to be assembled on a jig with pins, and the guns to be joined together and removed as a unit without disassembling the pins.
