Abstract

1412768 Anodizing Al and Al alloy strip FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 6 Oct 1972 [7 Oct 1971] 46346/72 Heading C7B [Also in Division G2] A base plate for a photo-sensitive printing plate is produced by a process comprising anodically oxidizing a roughened surface of an aluminium or aluminium alloy strip by passing it continuously through an electrolyte comprising 10-35 per cent by weight H 2 SO 4 at a temperature of 20-40‹C at a mean current density of 4-15 A/sq. dm. with the electrolyte flowing counter-currently to the strip, and thereafter producing a base plate from the strip. The anodized surface may be subjected to hydrophilic treatment, e.g. with a silicate, hydrofluorozirconate, polyacrylate, polyacrylamide, hydrophilic colloid, &c. (other examples are given), and thereafter coated with a photosensitive material (many examples are given). The surface may be roughened prior to anodizing by sand blasting, with a brush of resin or steel, or electro-chemically.
