Abstract

The anodized layer on Al nd Al alloys is given a colour of uniform shade and depth by an electrolytic treatment using, alternately, d.c. at current density 0.2-2A/dm2 and a.c. of 1-5V. The anodized Al is made the cathode which is immersed in an acid electrolyte contg. a metal salt. The use of d.c. as well as a.c. prevents cracking of the anodized layer.
