Abstract

1411297 Gas discharge display panels FUJITSU Ltd 12 Dec 1972 [29 Dec 1971] 57368/72 Heading H1D At least one of the dielectric layers 11 and 15 covering the electrodes 10 and 16 of a plasma display panel is provided on its surface facing the discharge space 13 with a reinforcing film 12 or 14 of an insulating material the chief component of which is an oxide of a rare earth element or of thorium. In the arrangement shown films 12 and 14 of the material are provided on both dielectric layers 11 and 15. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 7, not shown) a film is provided initially on only one layer 11 or 15 and the other layer gradually acquires a film by sputtering. Preferred oxides are CeO 2 and La 2 O 3 . The invention may be applied to a segmented electrode type panel (Fig. 3, not shown) and to any display panel having electrodes covered with a dielectric layer.
