Abstract

1411220 Circuit assemblies: semi-conductor devices JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 9 Oct 1972 [9 Oct 1971] 47104/71 Addition to 1252883 Headings H1R and H1K A method of attaching an electrical component to a printed circuit board, including testing of the component on a test tile prior to attachment comprises securing the component 21 to one of a plurality of conductive areas on a ceramic carrier, and connecting electrodes of the component to other areas using wires 22, 23; attaching conductive straps 16, 17, 18 to the conductive areas and to conductive tracks on a test tile so as to secure the carrier to the tile; carrying out tests by making contact to other parts of the tracks on the tile and then severing the straps adjacent the tile and reconnecting the straps to a printed circuit member as disclosed in Specification 1,252,883. The conductive areas may be formed by vacuum deposition and etching, or by using a metallic ink and etching, to define the desired conductive areas. The component may be a semi-conductor diode or transistor, and be secured to the conductive area by brazing. The lead wires may be of gold and secured by thermocompression bonding or welding. The test tile may be provided with a cover for use during testing and also transport and-handling of the component when on the tile.
