Abstract

1405496 Latches B MOUTHAAN 7 Nov 1972 [10 May 1972] 51218/72 Heading E2A [Also in Division B8] A drum grappling hook 1, for use in gripping and lifting a drum which terminates at its upper end in a rim which projects radially outwardly of and above the end of the drum, comprises a housing formed of two spaced apart plates 2 (only one shown) which are interconnected by a bridge portion 3, a slot 4 being formed by the plates 2 and the lower end of the bridge portion for receiving the drum rim which is held in the slot 4 by means of a catch 5 rotatably mounted on a pin 6 and urged by means of a curved leaf spring 7 to its operative position shown in which it occludes the open end of the slot 4 to engage under the drum rim, the hook I being releasable from the drum by means of an operating member 11 connected to the catch 5 which is pushed inwardly against the action of the spring 7. A helically wound spring 18, which is shown in phantom lines, may be used instead of the spring 7. The hook 1 is attached to the cable of a hoist (not shown) by means of a bolt (16), Fig. 1 (not shown), the bolt (16) passing through an aperture 15 in each plate 2.
