Abstract

1403737 Making heat exchanger tubing RAYPAK PRODUKTEN NV 19 Sept 1972 [21 Sept 1971] 43414/72 Heading B3A [Also in Division F4] A finned tube 8, Fig. 6, such as for a heat exchanger, is formed by extruding fins 9 in a single operation as a continuous coil from the wall of the tube, the fins including an angle (α), Fig. 2 (not shown), of less than 90 degrees with the surface of the tube, and bending diametrically opposite fin segments 11, 12 in a direction which is at least substantially parallel to the axis of the tube. The bent segments are formed by compressing the tube between two substantially plane, parallel die portions of a press and may be of any desired shpe, e.g. curved, angular. Tubes 4<SP>1</SP>-7<SP>1</SP> may be utilized in-a heat exchanger by arranging them with flattened segments 11, 12 pointing alternately in opposite directions, Fig. 4 (not shown). Guide plates 10 are provided above the tubes to force flue gases along the arrowed paths around the tubes which may be made of copper.
