Abstract

1280662 Making heat exchangers; corrugating UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 14 Jan 1970 [28 Jan 1969] 4770/69 Headings B3A and B3E [Also in Division F4] A corrugated strip 23 is shaped as shown in Fig. 2 to serve as a tube support in a heat exchanger (see Division F4). Adjacent flanks 23 of the corrugations are joined alternately by a resilient loop portion 25 of the strip and by a flattened portion 24 which is subsequently welded to an arcuate support strip 19. Fig. 4 shows the formation of the corrugated strip using dies 32, 36, 38. Thereafter a tool 41, Fig. 6, or 41<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 7, is applied to distort the loop portion 24 and impart to the strip a curvature corresponding to the concave or convex surface of the support strip 19.
