Abstract
1,178,002. Making heat exchangers. FRANCAIS DU FERODO S.A. 11 Jan., 1967 [13 Jan., 1966; 15 June, 1966], No. 1631/67. Heading B3A. [Also in Division F4] In a method of making a heat exchanger having tubes at different temperatures and fins 10 threaded thereover, an aperture 25 is formed in each fin between the tube holes by cutting and folding operations on metal foil or alternatively during pressing of the fin from sheet metal. Flanges 30, 31 formed during manufacture of the aperture 25 interlock with corresponding flanges of an adjacent fin when the heat exchanger is assembled. In another embodiment, the aperture is extended to one of the long sides of the fin. The tubes and fins are assembled, e.g. by expansion of the tubes by pressurized liquid or by means of bulbous tube ends.
