Turning-gear.-In an engine-starter comprising a driving-metmber such as a pinion 7 mounted for longitudinal and rotary movement upon a rotatable member such as a screw shaft 2, the pinion is preventing from creeping into the driving position by a spring wire 10 carried by the pinion. In the form shown, the wire 10 is rotatably mounted in the weighted part 9 of a flange on the pinion. The wire normally lies in a groove 2<b> in the screw shaft, and any longitudinal movement brings it into engagement with an inclined shoulder 2<c> on the screw shaft. On further movement, the wire lies in the space between screwthreads without being in contact with the shaft. In a modification, the wire is arranged to press upon the top faces of the threads. The screw shaft is a sleeve surrounding a shaft 1 driven from an electric or other motor A or by band, and is connected to the shaft 1 through a coil spring 5. Specification 20811/14 is referred to.
