1402403 Detergent compositions PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 30 Oct 1973 [31 Oct 1972] 50353/73 Heading C5D Detergent compositions comprise a ternary mixture consisting of (a) 0À5% to 15% by weight of the mixture of a C 2 to C 4 alkylene oxide condensation product of molecular weight 2000 to 40,000 which is a homopolymer or a copolymer of the alkylene oxides; (b) 40% to 90% by weight of the mixture of a water-soluble, organic, anionic surface active agent; and (c) 9À5% to 45% by weight of the mixture of the condensation product of a C 8 to C 18 monohydric alcohol with 3 to 15 moles of ethylene oxide per mole of alcohol. Component (a) may be a polyethylene glycol or a co-opolymer of ethylene oxide and proplyene oxide. Component (b) may be a sodium linear C 12 alkyl benzene sulphonate, sodium tallow alkyl sulphate, sodium 2-acetoxy-tridecane-1-sulphonic acid, sodium methyl-α-sulphopalmitate, sodium B-methoxyoctadecyl-sulphonate, sodium coconut alkyl ethylene glycol ether sulphate or the sodium salt of the sulphuric acid ester of the reaction product of one mole of tallow alcohol with three moles of ethylene oxide. A non- phosphate detergent builder may be present in an amount of 5% to 80% by weight of the detergent composition. Up to 20% by weight of sodium tripolyphosphate may also be present. The compositions, which may be in granular form, are effective in removing illitetype clays from textiles and may be dissolved in water and used at a concentration of from 0À03% to 1À5% by weight at a temperature of 40‹ to 70‹ C.
