Stop-motions.-A stop-motion for gill-boxes, designed to act when the tension on the sliver is relaxed, comprises a pivoted guide 1 over which the sliver passes, and a constantly oscillated vertical rod 4 with which a cam-surface 3 on the guide 1 is adapted to come into contact when the guide is allowed to fall owing to the slackness of the sliver. The engagement of the rod 4 with the cam-surface 3 causes the rod 6, carrying the rod 4, to be moved to one side against the action of a spring 7, and to carry with it an arm 9 on a depending rod 8 so as to release a spring-controlled pin 10. The upper end of this pin normally engages and prevents movement of a bell-crank lever 13. Oscillation of the lever 13 about its pivot 14 under the action of a spring causes a cam-surface on the lever to operate the usual spring 25 which throws the belt on to the loose pulley. The lever 13 can be re-set by a handle 20, and the pin 10 is raised against the action of its spring by a pivoted handle adapted to engage the lower end of the pin.
