Abstract

212,005. Buckley, W. Dec. 19, 1922. Stop-motions.-The strap-relieving motion rod or other rod connected thereto is oscillated so as to bring stops thereon into the path of a member on the carriage, whereby it is operated to stop the carriage during its outward run, by means operable upon the winding-drum band breaking or slackening, the thickening or roving of the twist band or of the taking-up band, when the counterfaller moves into an abnormally high position, and when a set of cops is complete. The usual side stang 2, which is provided to stop the mule without stopping the countershaft, is made oscillatable and is provided with an adjustable collar 4 to engage an arm 5 on the straprelieving motion rod 1, and with stops 6 to engage a stop 7 on the carriage during the outward run when the stang is oscillated. If the winding-drum band 14 breaks or slackens and so fails to raise the weight-lever 12, an arm 9 on a lavar 10 actuated by the lever 12 is retained in the path of a stop 15 on the carriage, which during the inward run displaces the arm horizontally and so oscillates the stang by means of an arm 16. The arm 9 is also connected to a slide provided with a lever 22 having inclined surfaces 23 which are engaged by a rod 24 when the counterfaller rises too high, so that the lever operates the slide and the arm 9 to stop the carriage. An incline 53 connected to the copping-plate rod 30 operates the lever 22 so as to adjust its relation to the rod 24 in accordance with the normal variation in the height to which the counter faller rises during the building of the cop. A lever 28 is connected to the copping- plate rod and is moved thereby so that, at the completion of the cops, a part thereon comes beneath the arm 9 and raises it into the path of the catch 15. A spring-rod 41 adapted, when released, to strike an arm 43 on the side stang 2 is released by a feeler rod 35 when a frayed part of the twist band 36 impinges thereagainst, and by a feeler 50 when a frayed part of the taking-up band 51 impinges thereagainst. In mules wherein the strap-relieving motion rod is at one side of the headstock and the weighted lever acting on the winding-drum serves merely for tightening it, the stops 6 &c. are mounted on a rod running beneath the carriage and connected by a spindle and crank arm with the strap-relieving motion rod, and the rod is provided with an arm adapted to be displaced by the weight of the weighted lever. In mules for fine spinning where a weight is carried by a band on a pulley actuated by the winding-drum band, the rod that carries the stops 6 may be operated by a direct action of the weight.
