Abstract

1397263 Feeding sheets CANON KK 23 May 1972 [4 June 1971 8 June 1971] 24219/72 Heading B8R A sheet supply cassette for use with a copying- machine comprises a box-like body 2, Fig. 2, positionable in a fixed position on the machine frame 1, an intermediate plate 5 on which a pile of sheets is supported, and a lid 8 with a part 8<SP>1</SP> openable to receive a separator roller 10. The front end of the plate 5 is urged upwards by springs 6 to press the pile against the roller 10 and against retaining members 7, the plate pivoting about supporting members 12 and having an upturned flange at the rear end which abuts the body rear end wall so as to keep the front end close to the body front end wall as the plate rises. The roller 10 passes the top sheet to feed rollers 11. In another form, Fig. 5, the plate 5 is raised while in a horizontal position by two front springs 6 and a rear spring 6<SP>1</SP>. In another form, Fig. 7, the cassette front end wall 452 is formed as a separate member pivoted to the body at 45 4 by means of side arms 45 3 , and carries the retaining members 45, which rest on the pile under their own weight. The intermediate plate is raised by flat springs 44, and the lid 8 has a part 8 1 usable as a tray for sheets after copying. Fig. 12 shows a cassette for long sheets P attached to a machine frame 15. A cam 2 2 on the cassette actuates a switch MS19 to signal that the cassette is in position. A photo-electric device 155, 156 is aligned with holes 24, 43, in the bottom of the body 2 and in the intermediate plate 43 to indicate when the cassette is empty. In the case of a cassette for short sheets similarly mounted, a second cam actuates two further switches to alter the machine operation cycle for short sheets. In another form, Fig. 26, a spring 18 inside each side wall of the body 2 urges a sponge plastic side presser 17 towards the side of the pile, the presser also having an inclined upper portion 16 to allow the sheets to be inserted from above.
