Abstract
1397158 Detecting hot-particles PAK CONSTRUCTION AB 19 April 1973 [24 April 1972] 18892/73 Heading G1A The invention relates to the detection of hot or glowing particles in e.g. a cellulose fibre drying plant. Fibres are transported by gas flow through a conduit 10 past a photo-electric sensor 12 having two or more cells with separate fields of view along the line of travel. Signals from the sensor are fed through a pulse responsive circuit 34, filter 38, shaper 40 to a counter 42, which is periodically reset automatically. A full count within the period operates an alarm 44 indicating risk of fire and may shut-down the plant. SENSOR CONSTRUCTION Fig. 2 comprises a housing 12 having six chambers 18 along the path of travel and containing photo-sensitive elements 26. Slits 24 in the housing enable each element to view a separate successive area such as 32, 32<SP>1</SP>, along the path 33. A transparent "dust cover" 25 is provided. In alternative constructions only two or three sensing elements are provided in a hemi-spherical housing Figs. 3, 4 (not shown). The sensor may be responsive to infrared only.
