Abstract
1397077 Lamps; reflectors HANOVIA LAMPS Ltd 14 July 1972 [16 July 1971] 33500/71 Headings F4R and F4W [Also in Division B6] The radiation from a high intensity U.V. lamp 2 employed for drying printing ink on a moving paper substrate X is cut off, if the substrate slows down or stops, by means of a pair of pivoted ducts 9 through which a cooling fluid such as air is drawn. Each duct is mounted on a pivot pin 13 and comprises a section 8 of the elliptical trough-shaped reflector 6 and a plate 10 spaced from the section 8 by a diaphragm 11. In the closed position the ducts abut along flexible strips 16, and a seal 17 may be provided between each duct and the housing 3. In the open position air continues to flow through the ducts and the radiation is focused at the axis 15. The reflector may be perforated to facilitate cooling.
