Abstract

1482743 Lamps WALLACE KNIGHT Ltd 18 Sept 1974 [3 July 1973] 31736/73 Heading F4R The radiation from an ultra-violet lamp 11 employed for drying printing ink on a moving web (not shown) is cut off, if the web stops, by means of a pair of pivoted shutters 47, 48 which are movable between an inoperative position, in which they are located behind the reflector 19, and an operative position in which curved shield plates 49, 50 project through slots 51, 52 in the reflector and form a barrier to the radiation. Movement of the shutters is controlled by a solenoid (38) which rotates the rods 34, 35 carrying the shutters against the bias of springs (39a). The reflector 19 forms the inner wall of a water jacket 18 having chambers 30, 31 through which water is circulated to cool the reflector, the jacket being mounted in the lamp housing 12 by means of ribs 26, 27 which locate in grooves formed in rails 28, 29. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) a cooling duct into which the reflector projects is formed in the upper part of the housing.
