Abstract

A rotary warning lamp comprises a light source, a concave reflector adapted to rotate about an axis at right angles to the axis of the reflector to produce a rotating light beam in a fixed plane, and two side plates having non- reflecting surfaces which rotate with the reflector to give a sharp cut-off to the side edges of the beam. The reflector may revolve around a fixed light source or the light source may rotate with the reflector. Parallel louvres rotating with the reflector may be provided. In the form shown, a carrier c for a parabolic reflector e is mounted for rotation about a fixed vertical lampholder b and is driven by a motor c<SP>1</SP> through gearing d. The carrier c also supports side plates and intervening louvres having non- reflecting surfaces. The device is mounted on a base a and surrounded by a cylindrical window j, the top being closed by a cover k. In a modification, the lamp is carried by a curved support bracket so that the filament is in a horizontal position. Bleed holes for the ventilation of the enclosure are provided. For use as a warning lamp, colour filters may be provided or the window formed in sections of different colours.
