Abstract

[Also in Division F4] A lamp for producing coloured light comprises a housing 10 (Fig 1, not shown) containing a source of light 14 and at least two plane and spaced apart light filters 16 mounted within the housing for rotation in a horizontal plane about a common vertical axis. A motor 20 mounted within the housing drives the filters through rotatable members 22, 23 in driving engagement with the outer peripheries of the respective filters. The members 22, 23 are made of resilient material, e.g. rubber, and are so constructed that the filters are rotated, either intermittently or continuously, at different, but substantially constant, mean rotational speeds. To achieve this the members are formed with cylindrical surfaces of different diameter, or alternatively the surfaces are of the same diameter but one has discontinuities 24 (Fig. 3, not shown). The filters are mounted in three rotatable nylon bearing members 17 spaced around their outer peripheries, and each filter is subdivided into three equal sector-shaped portions which are differently coloured. The light bulb 14 is mounted in a reflector 15 to pass light through the superimposed filters, so that as each sector passes in turn over the bulb a succession of changing hues is obtained.
