Abstract

1,083,492. Rotary beacons. M. C. HARLEY. Oct. 28, 1965 [July 31, 1964], No. 30291/64. Heading F4R. A rotary lamp especially for use to illuminate large areas or as a warning beacon consists of a light source 1 at the focus of a reflector 2 which is mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis in a fork 5 mounted for rotation about a vertical axis, at least one motor being provided for producing the rotation. The reflector 2 is carried by a shaft in bearings 4 driven by a belt 2a from a pulley on a motor 10, the opposite bearing 3 of the reflector rotating about the support tube 8 for the lamp. The fork 5 carries the motor 10 and is itself rotated by a second motor 17 through gearing 16. The lamp filament is preferably at the point of intersection of the axes of rotation. The upper half of the lamp may be enclosed by a hood having an internal reflecting surface, or a plane mirror may be mounted above the lamp to direct the light downwards. Louvres 6 and side plates 7 may be used to delimit the beam.
