Abstract

1396675 Aerials THOMSON-CSF 1 Nov 1973 [3 Nov 1972] 50897/73 Heading H4A A. radome comprises a dielectric material wall, of such a thickness that preferentially transmits waves of a frequency F1, a first network 7 of continuous wires, which is integral with said wall, and a second network 8 of discontinuous metal elements, which is also integral with said wall, and which is interleaved with the network 7. Each of said discontinuous elements may have linear dimensions not exceeding one-eighth of the wavelength corresponding to the frequency F1. The two networks in association with the wall constitute an assembly which resonates at a second frequency F2, which is lower than F1. As described, the radome is the ogival nose of a high speed aircraft, and is made of ceramic material or fibre glass. In the latter case, the network 7 may be incorporated when building up the nose on a mould. The network 8 (together with the network 7, when appropriate), can be formed by a printed circuit technique on a dielectric material substrate such as polyethyleneterephthalate. The substrate may then be adhered to the interior of the radome wall, or it may be incorporated therein in the case of a fibre glass wall.
